Aseel Elayan was born with a severe hearing loss in Pennsylvania. She and her older sister are the only deaf members of the whole family. That was when her family decided to move from Philadelphia to the DMV area for better education and accessibility to the Deaf Community.
Aseel grew up in Fairfax, Virginia with ASL and English as her native languages. Some of her family members know some of the signs but mostly use spoken English to communicate.
She graduated from George Mason University with a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design in May 2020. With the degree and her passion for art, Aseel opened a small business, Ahlan Design, where she works as a freelance designer. She also just discovered her passion for heat pressing t-shirt designs and many other artistic methods. She’s very proud of being a Deaf small business owner.
Currently, Aseel is busy designing in her workspace with a cup of chai.
